Benazir Haari Card Distribution in Sukkur and Rohri in Sindh

This programme targets 1.5 million farmers in the province by providing assistance in the form of subsidies and monetary grants for farming necessities such as seeds, fertilizers, and other supplies. Sindh Minister of Agriculture Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Khan Mehr was the guest of honor for the launch event.

Other attendees were also present at the event which includes Syed Kamil Haider Shah (Chairman, District Council Sukkur) Barrister Arsalan Islam Sheikh (Mayor of Sukkur) Rafiq Ahmed Burro (Secretary Agriculture Sindh) Munir Ahmed Jamani (Director General Agriculture) Dr M. Raja Dharejo (DC Sukkur) Syed Asad Shah (Deputy CEO Sindh Bank) and other important people.

Sukkur and Rohri Disbursement Ceremony

In his speech, Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Khan Mahar, Sindh’s Provincial Minsiter for Agriculture remarked on the importance of this program and said that already, 42,000 farmers including 1,000 women from Sukkur and Ghotki districts have their cards.So far, 336000 farmers have been registered to the program in Sindh, with 298000 of those being qualified for the wheat subsidy. Over 18 billion rupees have already been given to farmers under the program by the government.

How the Benazir Haari Card Elevates Farmers

Farmers receive subsidies directly without any middle men through the Benazir Haari Card, which serves as an all in one ATM card.

Phase 1:

Aims at small scale farmers with land between 1 to 25 acres.

Phase 2:

Will expand to include medium scale farmers with excessivly larger land holdings. This initiative plans to create cost efficient farming through an affordable and easily accessible funding structure.

Future Developments in Sindh Agriculture

The Sindh government has put forth plans to enhance development in the region to strengthen the agriculture sector further:Agriculture Dashboard: Implementing a monitoring system that tracks income and expenses for every acre of land.

Irrigation Improvements: Farmers will be able to access subsidized energy saving water course, solar powered pumps and tubewells, allowing for better efficiency and lower productivity costs from them.

Safeguarding on Sindh’s Water Rights:
Barrister Arslan Islam Sheikh, Sindh Government spokesperson and Mayor of Sukkur, raised an issue about the federal government’s Chiliostan canal project confirming that with this view, no benefit is looked at for Sindh claiming that water is a right which can be legally and publicly defended.

Benazir Haari Card has been described by many as an epochal initiative and reflects the commitment of the PPP towards farmers welfare, as stated Syed Kumail Hyder Shah, Chairman District Council Sukkur. Buriro and Jumani, along with other key personnel, emphasized the significance of the program in regard to agriculture development in Sindh.
